Continuous/Discontinuous
The continuity or discontinuity of a sound is related to the absence or presence of silences over its evolution. If a sound is uninterrupted, it is continuous. One may use the word legato for a musical phrase. If a sound is interrupted by silences, it is discontinuous. One may use the word staccato for a musical phrase.
