Smooth/Rough

The features smooth and rough refer to the absence or presence of temporal asperities or irregularities in a sound. A smooth sound has no asperity, and does not produce a rubbing sensation. A rough sound has asperities, and produces a rubbing sensation. One can qualify a rough sound as having a raspy or granular texture.
